Versions, downloads, and Trash
Versions let you update a file while keeping its history. Read access is enough to download a ready version. Uploading a new version or deleting an object requires edit access.
Download the current or an earlier version
Section titled “Download the current or an earlier version”- Select the file to open Details.
- For its latest ready version, select Download current version.
- For an earlier version, find its number under Object history → Versions and select Download beside it.
Your browser handles saving the file to your device. Only ready versions can be downloaded. If no version is ready yet, the current-version download button will not appear.
Update a file’s contents
Section titled “Update a file’s contents”- Select the existing file.
- Choose Upload new version.
- Select one file and wait for both transfer and checking to finish.
- In Versions, confirm that the new version is marked Current.
While the update is being checked or is in quarantine, the previous ready version remains current. History is preserved. To return to older contents, download that version and upload it as a new one.
People with different sources of access may see different version lists. Inherited or company access shows ready versions. Owners and people with direct access may also see versions that are still being processed or have a problem.
Use Safe preview
Section titled “Use Safe preview”Select Secure preview in the Versions section. It displays the current ready version for supported text formats: UTF-8 TXT, MD, and CSV.
Built-in preview is not supported for PDFs, Office documents, images, or video. Download those files instead. Safe preview is not supported for this format does not mean the upload failed.
Text preview has size limits and may show less than the complete file. If it is still being generated, wait for processing. If preview is unavailable, try downloading a ready version.
Move an object to Trash
Section titled “Move an object to Trash”- Choose Move to Trash in Details or the object’s menu.
- Check the name in the confirmation.
- Select Move to Trash to confirm.
The object disappears from the normal list. Deleting a folder also makes its contents inaccessible through that folder. The interface gives a 30-day restoration period; restore anything you need within that time.
Restore a deleted object
Section titled “Restore a deleted object”Open Trash, select the object, and choose Restore. It returns to its original folder. If that folder can no longer receive the object, it returns to the owner’s personal space; the app explains that it was restored to My files.
Trash lists deleted objects you own. If you deleted someone else’s file as an editor, contact the owner. The interface does not offer a manual permanent-delete command or deletion of individual versions.
